I love leading worship. There’s nothing more exciting to me than seeing people connect with God. According to my parents, I’ve loved music since before I could talk. I played a song on the piano by ear when I was 5, and so my mom decided it was time for lessons. Growing up I listened to whatever was playing in the house which was usually either country or what I like to call elevator music. Now, I would love to tell you that I grew up listening to all the great classic rock artists that paint the bios of every other band’s website on the net because it would sound much more chic. But…it wouldn’t be true, and I’d rather just be me. So I confess...my early experiences with music were a combination of Reba McEntire and Barry Manilow. Different I know, but I’ve never fit the mold; so why start now?
Among my biggest musical influences are Nichole Nordeman, Michael Farren, Paul Baloche, Kyle Lee, Matt Redman, Darlene Zschech, and Shane Barnard. I love Tex-Mex which of course you cannot get authentically anywhere other than in Texas! Don’t even try—it’s not the same. Italian food is also in my top 5. My favorite things are evenings at home watching classics from the 40's and 50's, scrapbooking, a really great cup of coffee, taking my kids for a walk on a beautiful day, cooking from scratch, shopping, and of course anything that involves music.
When I’m not doing music, I’m a full time stay at home mom for the two most amazing kids on the planet! (I know…every parent says that, but seriously you should meet them). Samuel is 6, and his laughter is contagious. He never ceases to amaze me with his quit wit and creativity. Lizzie is 2 and has a smile that melts me. Her passion for life challenges me to embrace every moment I’m given. I can’t imagine life without Tommy (the handsome acoustic guitar player with the same last name as me). We are truly best friends, and the last 11 years have been nothing short of an amazing journey together with God.
The best thing about the band is that we’re all friends. I think we’ve laid a strong foundation of unity and mutual respect. I believe this life is more about the journey than the destination. I don’t think God is concerned so much about where you go in life as He is about how you get there. It’s the journey and the choices along the way that shape who we are and who we become. I don’t know about you, but I want to finish well.
